Also known as: Berberine HCl, BBR
Berberine is a bioactive compound extracted from several plants including goldenseal and barberry. It activates AMPK (a metabolic master switch) and has been shown to rival metformin for blood sugar control.
Take with meals to reduce GI side effects and time with glucose absorption. Split into 2–3 doses — short half-life.
Poor bioavailability (~5%). Dihydroberberine is 5x better absorbed. Always take with food. GI side effects decrease over time.
